I named this piece 'High School'. It was the first time I consciously decided to brighten a space through my artwork, something greatly inspired by the birth of my daughter.

Knowing how previous projects could take months at a time to complete, the title became an essential part of the process — creating a trajectory toward something lighter and more uplifting.

The ingredients: storytelling, nasal high tones, and the Age of Aquarius… all rolled into one.

Another important part of the planning process for me is finding energy through music, almost like an anchor or reference point. Even if the choices aren’t always obvious, there has to be something within the sound that influences the mood of the work.

For me, there also needs to be a deeper discovery — something not instantly understood. The initial impact may already be there, but there has to be something else underneath it all.

That way, as I work, my appreciation for what that “something” might be grows alongside my own curiosity about where the artwork itself is heading.

Maybe, through creating, I can better understand myself at the same time ?
