Over time, my passion has gradually shifted from music back toward art as my main source of inspiration. The connection between the two has always been there — I just feel more at peace now with how naturally they support and strengthen one another.
I worked through the loss of a close friend while creating this piece, and I think that emotional weight began revealing itself toward the end through the decisions I was making within the artwork.
I was also inspired by Tyler, the Creator and the creative choices he was making visually and musically at the time. I connected with his energy, and his music is great to draw to.
To me, he embodies the kind of energy that contributed to Hip Hop while still a subculture, which had the capability of bringing introverted people out into the world to participate creatively, I think that’s part of why he’s so celebrated.
I finished this piece at the end of February 2026, and honestly, I’m still a little unsure about what I’d like to work on next.
I’ve had ideas, but nothing has fully stayed with me yet.
There’s a trumpet player in the top-right corner of this piece...maybe that’s the connection. Jazz and the musicians who shaped it might be the path ?
